The Death of Truth

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Watching the evil and the good. Proverbs 15:3

Journalism once provided truthful insight into news of the day. Follow-up exposés were common as more information became available. Readers were encouraged and enabled to understand the implications of the facts surrounding the news and arrive at a well-informed perspective. Public perspective in turn formed public opinion and that more than anything else drove America’s elected representatives to voice the views of their constituents in state houses and in the federal government. Those days are long past. We should all be mourning the death of truth, but alas, few recognize what has happened to truth as a tool to strengthen nations and guard against ruinous corruption.

Truth has become a casualty of the schemes of evil people. The murder of truth was intentionally committed by individuals and organizations who cannot accomplish their goals through rational, logical, and reasonable public debate. The world is in the grips of mass propaganda, deceit, and an other-worldly strong delusion. Let me explain.

Across America, college campuses have become a tinderbox of irrational enflamed rhetoric and violence toward Jewish students and of course, Israel. The favorite villain of the left, progressive, Marxist, Islamic jihadi instigators of global hatred, has always been Israel. Why is this the case? An old idiom explains this phenomenon well: “Follow the money.”

In a recent social media post, Amir Tsarfati revealed interesting data from the US Department of Education and the National Association of Scholars. Since 2001, the tiny nation of Qatar has given roughly $5 billion dollars to American universities, with approximately $2.7 billion given between 2014-2019. Some might wonder why this matters. It matters because Qatar also happens to be the home of the leadership of Hamas and of the Muslim Brotherhood. Qatar claims to be the voice of reason between Israel and Hamas, trumpeting itself as the perfect mediator to deliver peace to the Middle East. This claim is the height of hyperbole and is downright laughable. The truth is that along with Iran, the PLO, and the Muslim Brotherhood, Qatar is the biggest financial supporter of terrorism in the region, and now through its financial support to American universities, globally.

Given these facts, what are the odds that Columbia University, the University of Southern California, or Ohio State University, will crack down on “student” protests that are virulently antisemitic and have turned violent? Universities have had bloated and unnecessary budget spending not tied to education goals for decades. Shutting down these university protests which clearly vocalize the Qatari, Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood Islamic terror propaganda message of Jew hatred and anti-Israelism would jeopardize a large source of financial support. Now you know why university presidents and boards of trustees sit in silence, refusing to do anything to stop this hatred. 

The American press has played a role in this deception as well. The current messaging concerning Israel and her ongoing fight to remain free of terrorism, cannot be sustained through truthful analysis of past and present facts, and runs counter to even the testimony of Arabs and Muslims within Israel. Israel is occupying its land we are told. The truth is Israel is not “occupying” the land nor are they “colonizing” anything. Israelis are the indigenous people of the land, the rightful heirs of their ancestral homeland. The fabricated narrative of the left, the Islamic jihadists, and the ignorant, uninformed American student protestors, is another ugly example of the death of truth.

No amount of political, historical, or pseudo-religious propaganda or intentional distortion or subjugation of truth will overcome the reality of Israel’s right to exist and to exist in peace. No amount of Islamic vitriol aimed at fulfilling a misplaced and dangerous eschatology of global conquest can be allowed to continue.

Murdering truth results in people being dislodged from any form of objective morality. A morality that celebrates murder, rape, and acts of torture, is not morality. It is a subjective blood lust which can only be attributed to wicked delusion and the resultant unhinged evil.

Politics and the motivation behind the current global push to destroy Israel will not succeed. God will defend His people Israel, and He will fulfill His promises to her. Those promises, in part, are to expand her land possession and make her the supreme nation upon the earth. They also include His unfailing love for Israel and His promise to rescue her from the nations of the earth when they turn against her. I remind you of God’s declaration of His faithfulness recorded in Jeremiah 31:35-37.

³⁵ Thus says the Lord,
Who gives the sun for light by day
And the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night,
Who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar;
The Lord of hosts is His name:
³⁶ “If this fixed order departs
From before Me,” declares the Lord,
“Then the offspring of Israel also will cease
From being a nation before Me forever.”

³⁷ Thus says the Lord,

“If the heavens above can be measured
And the foundations of the earth searched out below,
Then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel
For all that they have done,” declares the Lord.

It looks to me as if we are in the days of the prophesied birth pangs and they are increasing before our eyes.
